Why You Should Start Your Own Business

First of all, what is the definition of  'own'? So, I google the word Own and here is the result/meaning: "used with a possessive to emphasize that someone or something belongs or relates to the person mentioned".

So, in essence, your business is yours, you possess it, you design it and you make it work. It also means that you cannot be fired, you can give yourself a raise and you can go on vacation anytime you feel like.  You have no boss to look over your shoulder, you are your own boss.  It also means that failing or success, it is all yours.

Owning your own business also will enable you to have an additional income if you already had a job.  You are then building a financial freedom for yourself and your family.  In this economy, one income is not cutting it, no matter how much you earn bi-weekly or monthly.  Job is also scarce now and instead of waiting endlessly, you can start your own business and when that job offer comes in, you are already building something on the side. As Warren Buffet warned us a while back, he said "The days of 9 to 5 are over". I believe that whatever comes out of Mr. Buffet is golden.  Also, according to Mark Templeman in Entrepreneur you are leaving posterity
. If you’re a doctor, plumber or bus driver it’s hard to imagine you passing your career on to your loved ones. But if you own your own business, that’s something you can pass on to the next generation. And be proud of it, because you created it.

As an Avon Independent Sales Representative and National Recruiter, I have heard so many stories of hardship and people not having enough money to do what they wanted to do - go on vacation, fix their broken-down car, even take their children to the movies or the amusement park.  Working my Avon business alongside my regular 9 to 5 job has enabled me  to support my family more. I can live a simple but comfortable life.

I remember two years ago when the US Federal Government had a shut down. Less than two weeks after, a lot of people were in trouble of paying their bills, how life was already tough and that made it tougher. At the same time, I looked back at some of my friends who work for the Government as well but have multiple income stream.  They were actually happy because the shut down allowed them to spend more time with their businesses.  It was like a different world to them.

So, I want to encourage you to find what your interest is or what you are good at and turn it into your business.  Then handle it as a business and not a hobbby( a hobby cost money, but a business gives you an income). By owning a business, you will not only be building a solid financial foundation but you are also empowering yourself for An empowered woman/man is a beautiful and happier soul.

Why Am I still Selling Avon Twenty-Five (25) Years Later(Why Am I Still in the Game)? Part 1

First of all, I started selling Avon because  my family needed extra money.  I could not go out and get a second outside-the-house job because we had three children(the fourth came four years later) and my husband leaves for work just as I was coming in from mine.  We did not want to leave three young children at home by themselves.

So, with my appointing Manager promising me that I would make money if I BELIEVE  in the business, the products and myself, I went out  running my Avon business as a business from the beginning.

The main fundamental reason of  my joining Avon was and still is  to make money or earn an extra income.  I also  wanted my family to have a financial stability so that we could help our family abroad when needed.  I did not want to struggle with funds whenever I saw something our parents would love in the store.  I also wanted us to be able to send something home when anyone was visiting Nigeria and could visit our parents.

So, as those reasons or my Why of starting to sell Avon remain in place and I was able to fulfill them, I could not leave the business.  Life became much more easier for us.  We were able to pay for extra things conveniently.

I also started earning incentives from Avon.  For instance, I earned enough points to purchase a big 32" TV with a built-in cabinet and stereo from Avon Representative Rewards Program.  That was the jewel of our living room then. Every visitor would ask where we got it from and their comments when they learnt the source would bring joy to my heart.  I started enjoying the business more, and then selling more.  The incentives kept piling up.  My Mrs. Albee trophies(the statuette of the first Avon Representatives given when we reach first level of Sales Title)became the decorations for our home.

When our children reached the age to participate in activities like sports, we were able to pay for those easily including travelling all over the Country for Championships

The best part of why I stayed in this business came in 2002.  We needed to buy a single family home when our family and relatives living with us grew.  When we met with our Builder's Financial Advisor, she looked at both my husband's and my paycheck and asked if we had any other income to help booster our approval and interest rate. My husband whispered into my ears to show the lady my Avon earnings.  When she saw the records, her comment was the catalyst to my still being called an Avon Representative till today. She said "Do you mean you could make this much selling Avon and for you, on a part-time basis? She continues:  Do you know that this is what some people make at their full-time job?"  This meant that I  am making a full-time money, doing a part-time job,
Yes, I answered and she stamped our paper for the Construction Loan: APPROVED!!.

These are some of the  reasons why I am still selling Avon. I love the business, I love our products, I love my Team and moreover  I love beauty, so I make it my business.

Is Selling Avon Worth It?

I have been asked this question so many times in my twenty-five plus years of being an Avon Representative. My answer had always been yes, it is worth it, at least for me.
Let us start with why my answer is Yes to if it is worth it selling Avon.
I started living in this Country(USA) in August of 1988. I came in to join my husband and had three young children with me ages one to 11 years. I stayed home for a while and then started a home-based day care. That lasted a few months and I had to look for a job.I found job that was not expected but nine months after starting the great job, I wanted and needed more. We, as a family needed extra income to manage our family of five despite the fact that my husband and I work. The two pay checks were not enough. I wanted an extra money but it would be difficult to leave the children behind at home for my day job and then the part time. My husband would not let me, but while looking in the paper, I found an advertisement that read: Need Extra Income? Be your own boss, Work from Home, No experience needed, No inventory to carry. If this were you, please call this no....... I was not aware what the company was but all the categories fit what I was looking for. I called the number and a lady answered with "Avon, Elizabeth". I was surprised, but said I was looking for a job.
Fast forward, we met and I started my Avon career after she had explained what it was about. I asked her one question that day and that was "Ms. Elisabeth, will I make money from this business?'. She answered 'Yes, if you believe!'. She told me that to succeed in anything in life, we have to believe in it first and then work at it. I took her words to heart and have been believing in Avon since then. I am today, a David H. McConnell Member(Avon Founder's name) Sales Representative(2014 sale of over $66,000.

I also started bringing people into the Avon business which we call Leadership in Avon in 2007. My Team's name is Elite Squad. Today, I have over 160 business partners with a total Unit Sale in 2014 of over $566,000.(April - December 2014). Currently our Unit sales are over $255,000(January to date). I have used my Avon income to support my family here in the US and abroad. I have earned incentives from iPad Air to laptop to trips to Los Angeles, Florida and a lot of other Tools.

So, in conclusion, selling Avon is worth it because it pays to be an Avon Representative, owning your own business, giving yourself a raise when needed and having a FINANCIAL FREEDOM.
